A volunteer project of your neighbors working together to reduce our neighborhoods' contribution to global warming and our use of non-renewable resources. Here are some of the initiatives already under way:

Each of us influences the health of our planet all the time, whenever we flip on a light switch and when our refrigerator hums. While we each wish that many things were done better in our community and in our nation, we each can easily choose to make our lives and our planet better.

Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill is the good work of your neighbors. Volunteer a small amount of time and together we will make a big difference. More actions to come and other ideas most welcome.

Replace regular incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs. Local merchants are offering bulbs at a low non-profit price. Be smart: save over $100 in energy costs and replacement bulbs with a $2 long-life, efficient bulb.
The big one for reducing your contribution to global warming. With a phone call or a few keystrokes at a web site, switch to electricity generated from wind and other non-polluting sources. Green Power/variable rate from ConEdison Solutions is the best buy.
Trees soak up carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide causes global warming. Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill volunteers identified 1,200 spots for new and replacement trees in our community this summer. The Parks Department and volunteer foresters have planted 125.
Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill volunteers are working with the city Department of Transportation to add to our bike lanes and put bike racks where we need them in our parks, near mass transit and along shopping avenues. New ideas for bike storage are percolating. Join the effort.
Not only do Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill reusable shopping bags fold to fit in your purse, pocket or briefcase and eliminate plastic and paper; they come in great colors to add sizzle to every outfit. Find them at a low non-profit price in stores displaying the Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill logo.
Now home heating fuel containing biodiesel is available for any existing oil heat system. Biodiesel produces substantially less pollution than fossil fuels. A major source of biodiesel: recycled cooking oil recycled from local restaurants.
